Ireland day 0475. Monday 16 January 2023- New Shoes
Today’s summary Walked down to Tesco Clare hall to try and get some shoes, but failed.   Tried the nearby Lidl but they didn’t have any either.   Eventually took the bus to Swords and managed to get some in Penney’s in the Pavilions Centre.   In Austria, Val found some snow at last
Today’s weather Cool, bright and dry.   Plenty of sun until late afternoon.   Light westerly wind.   Appx 4C

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

I needed to get some supplies for the week so decided to walk down to Tesco Clare Hall – always an interesting plod, through the castle demesne and past St Doulagh’s church.   But Tesco itself was unfortunately a bit of a disappointment today.

It’s recently been refurbished and looks very nice but I’m convinced they have reduced the range of stock.   No large TVs to ogle at any more, no oatcakes, and – more relevantly for my quest today – no men’s shoes.   They used to have a decent selection of footwear and reasonable prices but alas that has all gone.   And to add insult to injury they were selling toothpaste at the slightly barmy price of €25 a tube.

So I left empty handed and walked a bit further down the road to try my hand at the nearby Lidl.   No joy there either, so I went on bus and foot to the Pavilions shopping centre in Swords where I managed eventually to get some decent black lace-ups for €18.   A quick ride home on the no 102 then time for some more Lough Avalla beef for dinner and a few minutes time practicing Spanish.   Lessons start again a week tomorrow and I’m a bit rusty.

And in late news from Austria – Val has managed to locate some snow and has had a decent day practicing cross country skiing.   So everyone’s happy!

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

Frosty tennis courts having a bit of a holiday in the castle demesne Similarly frosty leaves on the pathside through the woods
The heliotropes are back, filling the air with their vanilla scent.   My over-riding memory of ireland in January! Under the flightpath – and only a couple of km from Dublin Airport runway.   Strangely enough, we are hardly ever bothered by the noise
Clare Hall – home of the now sadly-diminished Tesco Err – no thanks
€18 from Penney’s in Swords Pavilions shopping centre.   They look pretty decent although they were hard to find and these were the last pair they had in stock.   And they were the right size too, even more remarkably
