Ireland day 0789. Sunday 26 November 2023- AGM 3
Today’s summary Val was doing another 13 hour shift at work – first in the museum and then up at Wonderlights.   I spent the morning (and part of the afternoon) doing Spanish homework and making dinner.   Walking Club AGM at Wynn’s Hotel in late afternoon then wrote our Christmas card letter in evening
Today’s weather Heavily overcast and drizzly all day though cleared up a little in the evening.   Light southerly wind.   Appx 10c

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val was putting another one of her mammoth working stints today – 9:30 to 5:30 at the Casino museum then 5:30 to 10:30 at the castle.   Thirteen hours!   I’m in awe – though she says she loves it!   I, meanwhile, had a somewhat more sedate day.   After Val had skipped off to the museum I allowed myself the luxury of an extra cup of tea in bed, then dragged myself into proper wakefulness, and got on with my Spanish homework (the bane of my life, as I am so bad at it!)

I managed to crack most of it this morning though had to break off to get a hot meal ready for when Val briefly transited through the flat en route from the Casino to the Castle.   Once that was done, I was out of the door and heading for the station just after 1pm.   My destination was the AGM of the Walking Club, at Wynn’s Hotel.   It’s the third AGM I’ve been to, and it went pretty well.   Lots of ideas for new walks in the future – though each time I go, I feel steadily more and more guilty about not volunteering to join the committee.   But I did seven years on various committees of a walking club in the UK just before we came to Ireland, and I think Val would probably evict me if I did any more!

I didn’t hang around in Dublin afterwards as it was a drizzly afternoon and not very inviting.   So I returned to the flat where I briefly crossed paths with Val, then I finished off my deberes.   Next on the list was our Christmas round-robin letter, which I managed to complete in first draft.   And now finally it’s time to put my feet up and get the flat warmed up for when Val gets back from work.   Then it’s my turn to head out and earn a crust tomorrow!

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

Outside Tara Street station on George’s Quay, with hazardous electric scooter (they are everywhere and you have to have eyes in the back of your head) zooming along in the cycle lane O’Connell Bridge.   All signs of Thursday’s trouble seemed to have disappeared by today
In the back alleys behind Wynn’s Hotel.   Its full of atmosphere but not somewhere you would want to hang around More of the alleys.   Although it’s a shortcut from Eden Quay to Abbey Street, it’s probably better to take the slightly longer way round via O’Connell Street
Luas station outside Connolly Only a short wait for the Drogheda train to whisk me back to Malahide
