Ireland day 0839. Monday 15 January 2024- CEO
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
It was a bit of a role-reversal day today, as this time it was Val who had a day off while I was away at work. She tells me had a really relaxing day – which I think she very much deserved – as well as catching up with some admin tasks. I passed the time in the office a bit more stressfully, as I had to give a presentation to the CEO in the morning. It had been preoccupying my mind ever since I was first asked to do it last Tuesday so I was glad to get it out of the way. Anyway, I think it went OK – he is very inscrutable – and at least he didn’t sack me!
After spending the rest of the day working on my report, I finally left the office in the evening when some engineers arrived and started digging up the floor next to my desk with pneumatic drills. Perhaps the CEO was trying to tell me something after all. Anyway I packed up and left at that point.
It has been a bright cold and frosty day today – and some of the cars I saw as I drove to work this morning appeared to be covered in snow. That’s quite rare around here, and something I’ve only seen once or twice before in the three winters we have spent here. But for me, the only exposure I’ve had to the beautiful wintry weather today was the short walk along the frosty path from the car park to the office and back at the start and the end of the day. Not ideal, but sometimes needs just must.
We are in the midst of settling down for a low-key evening in the flat now, and have just enjoyed a delicious tasty dinner pulled together magically by Val. While we ate, we watched a slightly scary documentary (“The Social Dilemma”) about social networks – and how they are manipulating our thinking – on Netflix. Definitely worth a watch but probably not if you are prone to having alarmist tendencies.
Back to work tomorrow, but hopefully a bit less pressure for the next few days.
