(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val has started her annual “double dose of work” period, so from now until the New Year is spending three days in every six at the museum, and then Thursday to Sunday evenings working at the “Wonderlights” display at the castle as well.   So today I didn’t actually see her very much.

I have been busy enough, though, despite her absence.  I started the day with a phone call to the company I’m hoping to do some consultancy work for.   We managed to iron out a lot of the details, though I’m still waiting to receive a contract.   The wheels of procurement turn slowly, it seems.

Once that had been dealt with, I decided to make another casserole – this time it was beef.  Given that we are both likely to be quite busy over the next few weeks, I thought I would get ahead of the curve and prepare some home-made ready meals that could go in the freezer.   I’m not a great cook, and don’t enjoy it very much, but I’ve found casseroles are quite manageable and don’t take too much effort, apart from a long time in the oven.

By this stage, though, I noticed that the small hole in the right knee of my jeans had developed to unignorable proportions so I made a spur of the minute decision to go into Dublin to buy a new pair.   I started my retail therapy at the Levi’s store in Henry Street where, to my surprise, the shop assistant told me that they were doing a “buy two, get third free” promotion at the moment.   So, because I hate buying clothes and because they had a line of jeans that I know fits me well, I splashed out and bought three pairs.   It cost me a lot but at least I won’t have to go clothes shopping again for another decade or so.

Once back in the flat, I briefly intersected with Val as she passed through from one job to the next, and now I’m going to think about what we can have to eat once we are both back on planet earth later this evening.   In the meantime I might just watch a bit of TV!

I’ve taken this photo many times, but I can’t help thinking how fortunate we are to live here, and even more so that Val actually works in the beautiful thatched cottage in the middle of the picture Coming into Connolly with Croke Park in the background
