Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val has a brief trip to the UK on at the moment, to collect some things for an important wedding coming up later in the summer.   So my first task this morning was to take her to the airport to catch a 10:30 flight.

Once she was safely delivered and I was back in the flat, I spent a couple of hours dealing with some admin matters, then went on a quick walk over Robswall and on to the town to do a bit of shopping.   I managed to pick up a half-price Caesar salad, which I enjoyed for lunch.

Then I started the first of several sessions online today – I had a video call with a friend in London, which I very much enjoyed.   It’s really nice to know that you haven’t been forgotten, even though you are a long way away.

After that, I slotted in a quick gym session and a swim, then came back, had a couple of cups of tea, and then went online again to join a lecture by the former UK MP Rory Stewart, hosted by Gresham College (also in the UK), and entitled “Populism, Aristotle and Hope”.  It was an impressive if somewhat sobering performance, and even more so because he spoke for a full hour without notes.   Lots to think about!

Anyway, it’s getting late now and I seem to have spent altogether far too many hours on the computer today.   So I’ll sign off now, and try and figure out what I’m going to have for tea.   Part of it will be fresh strawberries with Greek yogurt, which at least sounds respectably healthy.

The Casino is getting a haircut! Playing fields up in the demesne have been fenced off, in advance of the Malahide Castle concerts which begin next week.
More of those wild roses that I like so much.   This one was towards the bottom of the Robswall estate Information about the lifeguarding process.   Not sure if the lifeguards were on duty today actually – it was so inhospitable on the beach that very few people were about
Lambay Island glowering over Robswall, with a big surf running whipped up by the strong easterly wind
