Ireland day 0877. Thursday 22 February 2024- Sprucing Up
Today’s summary We have visitors arriving from the UK later tonight so Val and I spent the day cleaning and tidying the flat.   Managed to fit in a quick visit to the gym (me) and a run (Val) between all the comings and goings, and also some Spanish homework.   Off to the airport shortly to meet a 9:30pm arrival
Today’s weather Cool, blowy and bright with a couple of light showers.   Moderate westerly wind.   Appx 7c

It’s amazing how quickly even a small flat like ours can degenerate into grubby chaos, so it’s a good thing that we are having some visitors over to stay later today (they are going to be with us until Monday).   I say “it’s a good thing” because the imminent arrival of guests is the one thing that is guaranteed to galvanise us into action and to get things knocked into shape.

So papers were tidied away, dust was hoovered up, and washing was done and dried.   A busy day but the flat does feel much nicer all round now.   It’s a shame we never get round to making it so liveable when it’s just the two of us!   Still, better late than never.

Inbetween all this flurry of domestic activity, Val managed to get out for a decent run and I went to the gym.   A few minutes on the torture machines and then a splash in the pool helped to recharge me ready for the next round of cleaning and tidying.

I think now, though, that we are as ready as we can be, so we’re going to make ourselves a simple dinner of beans on toast before heading off to pick up our friends from the airport on a 9:30pm flight.   Looking forward to seeing them again.

The light is markedly brighter, and the days markedly longer, now than was the case in the depths of winter a couple of months ago.   It’s wonderful! Geese examining the mudflats in Malahide estuary, on the lookout for tasty worms probably
Alexanders (the green plant in the foreground) bursting into flower along the foreshore.   Looks very spring-like; though there was more of a chill in the air today than there has been lately
