Ireland day 0797. Monday 04 December 2023- Medical and Work
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
To be honest, I hadn’t expected to be back in the clutches of the medical profession again this year. But despite my best endeavours, I found myself back in hospital this morning.
Yes, sadly the signs of age are putting in an unwelcome appearance once again – this time in the form of a hernia which the medics have deemed needs repairing. I’m having the operation this Friday at the Bon Secours hospital in Dublin, and had to be on-site for a pre-op assessment early this morning. So I duly braved the chilly morning and drove down to the hospital for 7:45, and was swiftly processed through the various checks. I was finished by about 10am and allowed myself the treat of a some porridge and a cup of tea in the hospital canteen afterwards. It’s quite a nice hospital – but it should be for the price I am paying! (Sadly, once again, my medical insurance doesn’t cover it – it’s lucky that I have just got a new job!).
The hospital is relatively close to the office where I’m working at the moment, so once I had finished breakfast, I drove straight over there and did another full day’s work – Teams meetings, reading, writing, and a catch up with a colleague over lunch.
Anyway, to celebrate surviving three weeks of work, and the latest of my medical interventions, Val and I are going out for dinner at the “Townyard” restaurant in Malahide this evening. She’s had a full day off work today – a welcome break from her mammoth work programme – and we’re both very much looking forward t it. It feels particularly well deserved tonight.
