Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

It’s a summer of weddings this year, and our first of the season is a week today, back in Birmingham, UK.   Of course that means new clothes, and we still had a few bits we needed to get in order to be able to present ourselves decently.   Val wanted some new shoes and a blouse; I needed a new tie.

So, since Val had a day off, and we had no other plans for the day (plus we are running out of time), we decided to take the train after breakfast, and head into Dublin to see if we could close off the gaps in our wardrobes.   I have to admit I’m not really a fan of clothes shopping, but actually, courtesy of Arnott’s department store, and ever-dependable Marks & Spencer’s, we managed to find more or less everything we were looking for.   In fact we were so successful that we treated ourselves to tea and scones in the M&S café (which will do nothing to assist the fittability of our new clothes) afterwards.

As we were in no rush, we caught the H2 bus back to Malahide at the end, and now, with the sun shining outside and my new walking self-help book sitting on the coffee table and urging me, we are going to head out enjoy a short evening stroll round the demesne.   For us both, it classed as a pretty successful day as well as, by all accounts, being quite an enjoyable one.

An important development.   A new Pret café has opened at Connolly station.   I think it is only the second in Ireland (the first was, appropriately enough, in Dawson Street) O’Connell Street beginning to look summery this lunchtime
