Ireland day 0931. Tuesday 16 April 2024- Tax Again Again
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
Today was a bit of a re run of yesterday – in other words, tax. Because we have only been tax resident in Ireland for 2 years, we still have to do a UK tax return too – even though it is to all intents and purposes nil. So today it was HMRC’s turn. The most annoying feature of the whole process is that the UK and Irish tax years are different, so I had to go through the rigmarole of getting a slightly different set of numbers from those I used yesterday for Ireland.
Anyway, it was a team effort and between Val and I we eventually got everything done by about 5:30pm. I should also add that because the sun was shining, we were able for once to have our lunch outside, on the balcony, without freezing to death. An excellent antidote to the tax return.
Once we had eventually decided to call it a day, we went on a short walk down Hanlon’s Lane in the sunshine. Then it was back to the flat and straight out again, to Portmarnock for our Spanish (me) and Pilates (Val) classes.
Now we’re back in the flat and Val is pulling together a tapas style late dinner of Padrón peppers. It’s one of her specialities and they are delicious!
