Ireland day 0777. Tuesday 14 November 2023- To Work!
Today’s summary Spent the day in the offices of my consultancy client, learning more about the background to their business and my assignment.   Hard work after such a long gap.   Straight out to Spanish this evening
Today’s weather Bright and breezy but mostly dry.   Strong westerly wind.   Appx 13c

Well if David Cameron can do it, so can I.   He left office a couple of months after I did, in 2016, and started work again today – the same day as I did.   I hope to keep a rather lower profile than him, however.

Not wanting to take any chances, I set six alarms (me three and Val three) to ensure I didn’t oversleep this morning, then packed up my computer and papers, and put on my suit.  Never my favourite thing, especially as I’m not a morning person.   But it’s got to be done – and I keep reminding myself that it was entirely my decision to go back to work!   And in any case, it’s only until February.

So after a slow drive through congested rush hour roads, I got to the office on time for a 9 am start then spent the day meeting people and getting things like passes and contracts sorted out.   As is always the case when you are relying on other people to do things for you, everything seems to take ten times as long as you think it should.   Anyway, progress was made and I hope to be able to get up to speed quickly now.

I had done as much as I reasonably could by about 3:30 so I decided to get away before the rush our, and then once back in the flat, got my public liability and professional indemnity insurances sorted out.   More admin (and more expense!).   I don’t have in-person meetings scheduled for tomorrow so it will be a “Work from Home” day – less stress about getting the suit and briefcase out, but considerably more discipline required to stay focused.

Must stop now as I have to get ready for Spanish.   A full-on day.
