Ireland day 0805. Tuesday 12 December 2023- Back To Work
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
I’d allowed myself three days to recover from my operation last Friday so today it was back into the routine of work again. I have to admit I didn’t really want to get up and go out this morning but once I’d had a cup of tea and a shower, I was feeling more human so I put a brave face on it and headed off down the R132.
Actually, it turned out to be quite an interesting day. We had business visitors in the office from the Netherlands today, and I enjoyed comparing and contrasting Irish and Dutch energy policy. It brought back many happy(!) memories of business trips to the Netherlands when I used to work for Shell.
By 6pm, though, I’d had enough and almost everyone else had already left the office. So I packed up and drove home – it’s not far back to Malahide but the road is dark, busy and narrow and not much fun on a drizzly midwinters night.
Val had had a day off work today, so she’d taken the time to go into Dublin to do a spot of Christmas shopping. We don’t go shopping very often – but even I enjoy it (provided it’s not for clothes) in small doses from time to time. She professed to be satisfied with her purchases, which is of course excellent news.
Anyway, as it was a pretty routine day, I won’t go on any longer. Time perhaps to get a quick breath of fresh air on the Hanlon’s Lane walk, and then some more of the Sopranos, possibly accompanied some chocolates and a rather delicious éclair that Val had seemingly conjured up out of fresh air. Well, I feel good to have overcome my inertia and done something worthwhile today. Long may it last.
