Ireland day 0804. Monday 11 December 2023- Recovery3
Today’s summary Third and final day of post-op recovery today.   Back to work tomorrow.  I had five video calls planned  with friends back in the UK so that kept me busy all day.   Val had a day (and evening!) off so treated herself to an afternoon at the beauty salon.   A satisfactory day all round.
Today’s weather Dry and bright most of the day but rain in the evening.   Moderate westerly wind.   Appx 9c

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

I had allowed myself Saturday, Sunday and Monday to recover from my operation last Friday so today was my last day.   It’s back to work tomorrow.  I feel pretty good actually (famous last words!) and really glad to have got the surgery out of the way.   I wasn’t looking forward to it.

But we both took full advantage of our days off work.   Val treated herself to well deserved afternoon in the local beauty salon, and I had no fewer than five, more or less back to back, video calls with friends back in the UK.   I find it’s really important to keep these long distance friendships going, or I am worried they may fade as we are so far away.   But they all went well and there was lots to catch up on and I thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Anyway now we are both free from our respective indulgences, and it’s completely dark and raining outside, so our hopes of going out for a short evening stroll appear to have been kyboshed.   But instead, we’ve got a nice bottle of red wine and some of the Sopranos to get us through the evening, as well as the rest of yesterday’s pork casserole to finish off.  So it looks like it will be feet up for a while, as we gather our strength for what will no doubt be another full-on week to come.

Look away now if you are of a squeamish disposition.   These are the Bridget Jones boxer shorts they give you after a hernia operation, try try and keep everything in place.   (They have boil-washed by the way)
Dinner in preparation.   I seem to have been doing a lot of cooking and washing up lately – which slightly to my surprise I quite enjoy ( the liquid accompaniment certainly helps though).   The endless cycle of meal preparation fills me with admiration for how hard Val must have had to work when we were both at work and had a family to feed as well.   Extraordinary, and it makes me feel a little better about it to be putting something back now
