Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Just a quick blog as the electricity has gone off in our AirBnB(!) so am having to “borrow” a neighbour’s wifi.

We spent the morning at the Glebe House and Gallery – a home to the late artist Derek Hill.  It’s run by the OPW and, it seems, like everything they turn their hands to, it’s great.  Lovely house (excellent guided tour courtesy of Kevin) and serene gardens.   Even though it rained, the OPW umbrellas kept us dry!

Then in the afternoon, we drove back to Falcarragh to walk a short stretch of the Burtonport Old Railway Walk as far as Lough Agher.   Spectacular scenery round the back of Slieve Muckish.   A few horseflies but not enough to detract from the enjoyment.  Another superb day in beautiful Donegal

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

In Glebe House.   Spot the Picasso (the plate at the right-hand end of the mantelpiece, casually propped up in a corner above the fireplace) Gallery of some of Dennis Hill’s collection of paintings, housed in the old stables.   these were mostly by women artists
Lots of paths to explore in the beautiful grounds.   He bought the house and all the land for £200 in the early 1950s Abundant Yellow Rattle (like at Plas Newydd) keeps the grass in this meadow under control, by parasitising it
On the old railway.   Nobody about and pure silence.   Bliss. Red Admiral (?) on the trackbed
Singing in the rain – sort of!
