Ireland day 0988. Wednesday 12 June 2024- Dublin Return
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
Well we are back on terra firma now, and safely ensconced in our flat in Malahide once again.
Our overnight flight from Montreal was very straightforward and actually a few minutes early into Dublin. We disembarked quickly and got through immigration without a hiccup – though the whole process was a bit haphazard as a result of broken escalators and slightly erratic management of the immigration queue. We just had time to buy some milk in the airport shop before the trusty 102 arrived and sped us back to Malahide. I think we were back in the flat not much more than an hour after our plane touched down. Which all things considered isn’t bad.
One of the things about having a small flat like ours is that you can lock it up and leave it and when you come back, things are pretty much as you left them. And indeed, despite having been away for a month, the flat looked exactly the same as it was when we walked out and shut the door. Ok a few of the plants on the balcony looked a bit withered (it must have been drier here than I thought) but they soon recovered with a drop of water.
We allowed ourselves a few moments to enjoy a cup of tea then did our unpacking – which didn’t take long thanks to our cunning “hand baggage only” plan – and got the washing on.
After a wash-and-brush-up, we put our feet up for a few moments and actually caught up on some of the many hours of sleep we have lost since we left Hawaii five days and eleven time zones ago. I should also note, with some embarrassment, that we put the heating on as well. It’s so cold here at the moment, despite this being the height of blazing June, that the contrast with Hawaii was briefly too great to bear.
I should also note with equal embarrassment that I discovered that I have put on half a stone / 3 kilos in weight while we have been away. My clear target is going to have to be to try and get rid of the excess poundage over the coming weeks, though I can’t pretend it’s going to be easy.
The rest of the day was spent doing a little shopping, going for a short walk to get some fresh air, and generally getting our feet back on the ground.
Normal service, or some semblance of it, will be resumed tomorrow.
