Commentary

Today’s been a busy – but ultimately quite productive – day, for both of us.

We’re off travelling in a couple of days’ time so the morning was spent trying to get a quart into a pint pot.   I.e. every possible combination of clothes and bits and pieces that I might need on the trip, into a small hand-baggage suitcase.   I’d almost managed it when we got to lunchtime, when I had to break off to join a family admin video call.

Finally that was sorted out so Val made us some porridge to sustain us for the afternoon, which was duly spent dealing with all the admin which resulted from the video call.

Eventually that was out of the way so I spent an hour or so doing some pre-reading for another meeting I’ve got tomorrow, then Val and I finally managed to escape into the fresh air for a quick walk round the demesne before Val had to go off to an appointment in Malahide.   While she was out, I finished off my packing (eventually managed it – though I did have to sit on the suitcase to squash it shut) and then set about planning a walk I’ve agreed to lead for the Club in June.   Because it’s a coastal walk, I needed to get hold of some long range tide forecasts but eventually I managed to do it.

By this stage, it was 7:30pm and Val had pulled together delicious poached eggs on focaccia for dinner.   So I ceased operations on the various admin tasks, and joined Val for our dinner, to the accompaniment of “Mad Men” and a glass of beer.   On reflection, not a bad day though it was hard work and I have concluded that doing admin is definitely not my favourite way of spending the day!
