Commentary

The morning today started as many do – with some admin work – and sadly yes that did include tax. Anyway, it was dealt with relatively quickly which was a good job as it looked like a beautiful day outside and it would have been a pity to have spent all of it cooped up indoors.

So as soon as the deskwork was out of the way, we got ourselves ready and stepped out into the fresh air.

Once we got outside, it turned out to be just as nice as it had looked from the indoors. Bright sun, almost-double-digit temperatures, and not too much wind. So we decided to make the most of it and go through the edge of the Demesne, over Paddy’s Hill and down to Portmarnock for a coffee on the beach. Before then returning to Malahide along the coast.

It turned out to be a good choice. The views were good, and the coffee and croissant from the Spar shop an excellent accompaniment to a relaxing break, sitting on the rocky shore near the beach, as the high tide lapped at our feet.

On our way back, we called in at the shops to get some ingredients for tonight’s dinner. In a bit of a departure from the norm, we’re trying out making fish finger curry. It certainly promises to be a bit different! Anyway, culinary assistance is being called for now, so I need to down tools and dash off to help.

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

View from our balcony this morning, as the moon was setting and the sun was rising Viburnum farreri (Farrer viburnum) – a sweetly scented winter blooming feature adorning one of the hedgerows on Limetree Avenue
Heading off with our pastries!   In search of a sheltered spot out of the wind A bold black-headed gull made a fly-by on the lookout for crumbs – nothing doing today, I’m afraid.   We were too hungry
Winter heliotrope (Petasites fragrans) – an invasive weed, apparently, but it smells nice The newly-exposed steps on Malahide beach in the process of being eroded even more by the rough sea and high tide
Looking dazzled but enjoying the sun at the start of our walk!
