Ireland day 1272. Sunday 23 March 2025- New Visitors Day 1
Commentary
We’ve got friends from the UK staying with us until Wednesday, so we spent the morning doing some last minute tidying and cleaning, and a bit of shopping and recycling, in anticipation of their arrival. At about 12:30, their flight from Heathrow landed, so we drove over to the airport to pick them up. I even managed to fill up with petrol while we were waiting for them to clear customs and immigration. They’d had a very smooth journey and that continued on this side of the Irish Sea, so we were back in Malahide by about 1pm.
We enjoyed a (delicious) light lunch of salad, with white wine, which Val had pulled together and which we all appreciated. A good couple of hours was spent putting the world to rights and catching up on all the news. Then we walked together down to the Grand Hotel, where our friends are staying, to check in. We took the opportunity to have a look round the interior of the hotel – which we had never done before, despite having been many times to the Matt Ryan bar for coffees. It was actually very nice, with good views across to the sea.
After they were successfully installed in their room, we reconvened and went for a short walk along the coast, then back to Malahide via Tesco to pick up some beers en route. We had chicken curry for dinner (another delicious concoction of Val’s) in the flat and then, after much food was consumed and alcohol knocked back, our friends pottered off back to their hotel in the late evening.
All in all, another good day, and there’s much more lined up for tomorrow, too!
