Ireland day 1250. Saturday 01 March 2025- Recovering?
Today’s summary Woke up still feeling exhausted despite a reasonable night’s sleep. Decided to skip going on the DWC walk today and have another quiet recovery day. Managed to knock off some paperwork and do my Spanish homework. Light meals only. Video-called Val a couple of times and listened to podcasts in the afternoon. Some TV in the evening.
Today’s weather Dry and bright with some sun. Feeling almost spring-like. Almost no wind. Appx 11c

Slow walk round Hanlons Lane to Tesco
Commentary

Whatever I’ve been suffering from lately is pretty tenacious! I woke up this morning feeling achey and tired – despite a reasonable nights sleep. During the first part of the day I actually began to feel even worse, which was a bit dispiriting.

Given the circumstances, I decided to skip the DWC walk today. I was disappointed to have to miss it as it was a new route from Lacken (near Blessington Lake) and I would have liked to have tried it out. Hopefully there will be another opportunity in the future.

Anyway, having made this decision, I nevertheless resisted the temptation to lounge about in bed all day and managed to get up at a reasonable hour. Once up and about I actually had quite a productive morning, despite not feeling brilliant. I dealt with a load of admin tasks that had been hanging around for a while – VAT, car tax and National Car Test booking. Then I tackled my Spanish homework which once again I found disappointingly hard. After having been immersed in a Spanish speaking island for the last two weeks I thought it might seem easier.

Later, I wandered down to the shops (via Hanlons Lane) to get some salad for lunch and to get a bit of fresh air. I hoped it might help shake off the torpor, but it didn’t.

Anyway, once back in the flat, I had lunch then spent most of the rest of the afternoon listening to podcasts. All very interesting and quite thought provoking. I also had a couple of video calls with Val. By the time I’d got through my listening list, it was starting to get dark and I noticed that I was actually feeling a little better. So I decided to stretch my legs again and head out to SuperValu to get a few bits for the kitchen.

I had a banana and a cup of tea for dinner – that was all I felt like – then settled down to watch some TV.

I hope the recovery continues- but for now I’m just glad to be feeling a little better than I have for the last 72 hours.

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

Hellebores bursting into flower in the Casino grounds – I think they are a bit later than last year Ditto the miniature daffodils
Progress continues on the new development in Hanlon’s Lane.   I have to say I’m not so sure about the aesthetics – especially the grey shoe box at the front Tide fully in at the lagoon – no chance of walking to Newbridge with dry feet today
More information has appeared on the hoardings fencing off the nascent Broadmeadow Greenway The whole southern entrance to the new bridge is fenced off and there’s just a dirt track on the other side leading to the bridge itself.   Not sure what (if any) construction work is going on at the moment
Still some light in the sky at 6:30pm this evening.   Spring is on its way (famous last words)!
