Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Sadly, a friend (Eddie McCumiskey) from the Walking Club died last week, and it was his funeral today. So I pulled together the smartest togs in my somewhat limited wardrobe, added the black tie and shoes that I bought yesterday, and headed down to Bayside for the service at 10am.   It wasn’t the happiest of occasions, but he was a much respected character and at least 250 turned out for the occasion.   Many walking club friends were there too, so it was quite a sociable gathering, despite the unfortunate circumstances.

A few of us stayed on for coffee afterwards, then I headed back up the DART to Malahide and set about making the fifth and final batch of marmalade.   Yet again I had a setting problem, but it looks and tastes good so I’m not complaining.   Now we just have to work out how we’re going to get through 34 jars in the next 12 months.   They will make excellent gifts!

A short walk round town in the evening – mainly to see if I could pick up some reduced ingredients for lunch tomorrow.   Fortunately I managed to secure some half price chicken tikka sandwiches, which will do nicely.

This is what 5 kg seville oranges, 5 lemons, 10kg sugar, and 12.5litres of water look like after 2 weeks of sweat and toil.
