Ireland day 0412. Monday 14 November 2022- Goatherd and Bread
Today’s summary Val was off work all day.   Spent the morning working on tax then in the afternoon went to Clare hall to do the week’s shopping.   In the evening we went over to Howth to collect our Lough Avalla beef from the goatherd.   A good end to the day.
Today’s weather Rain overnight but dry by the morning.   A sunny afternoon.   Light westerly wind, strengthening later.   About 13C

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val had a day off both of her jobs so we spent the morning unenjoyably and unsatisfactorily trying to sort out Val’s tax with HMRC (we didn’t get anywhere).

So later we consoled ourselves with a trip to Clare hall Tesco for the week’s shopping.

Then later in the afternoon we went over to Howth to meet the goatherd who had brought some organic beef over from her father’s farm in Lough Avalla, Co. Clare, and which we had bought for the freezer.   A very enjoyable short outing, especially being shown round the flock of goats currently in the barn (they were brought to Howth to keep the gorse under control and stop moorland fires – there was an article about it recently in the Irish Times).

Then in the evening, I made some bread.   OK it came from a packet I bought in Tesco but it looks alright and I was pleased with it as a first effort.

I am still slightly puzzled by how the wheels on the Tesco trolley manage to lock so firmly onto the downwards travelator from the supermarket to the car park.   I think there is some sort of clutch mechanism which is engaged when the ridges on the trolley wheel slot into the grooves on the travelator. The goatherd’s hut on Howth.   Very Julie Andrews
Today’s purchases.   10kg of beef (belted Galloway) which should keep us going for a few weeks Bread production underway.   There is a lot more to it than just opening a packet and stirring it round with a bit of water.   Well that’s my story and I’m sticking with it
The finished product.   Looks good though I have no idea what it will taste like
