The weekend’s family get together was over all too soon this morning, so we all headed our separate ways after breakfast.   Val is back in Ireland now, as work beckons.   I have decided to stay on an extra couple of nights to catch up with some former work colleagues.   So today I headed into London and then to Islington to meet up for lunch with a group of my former colleagues from the Government department where I used to work.   As we hadn’t met in person since pre-Covid days, there was a lot of catching up to do.   Which is probably why lunch took a full three hours.

Then straight from lunch I headed across London to Victoria Street to meet another former colleague at the Government dept. where he still works.   A quick trip to the pub for a drink turned into a multi-pint session and we finally managed to pour ourselves out into the evening three and a half hours later.

I rounded off the evening with a walk across London in the warm night air, checking that all the major landmarks were still in place as I had left them.

Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable day, another reminder of the importance of keeping friendships alive, even when you’re many miles away.

Chinatown from Charing Cross Road, waiting for the bus Westminster Abbey.   A tourist magnet this evening
Street furniture (and you can make calls, too) Anticipating the imminent arrival of a new resident, presumably
Apple Store and Opera House Arcade Royal Opera House from Bow Street
Possibly the most photographed landmark in Britain
