Commentary
It seems to be the season of half century walking club anniversaries at the moment. Last your the UK’s Long Distance Walkers Association celebrated its fifty years, and next month the Dublin Walking Club does the same. But today it was the turn of the Lensbury Walking Club, which also reached its half century in 2025.
Val and I joined this club soon after I started work in the 1980s. So we were delighted be invited to go along to the anniversary celebration dinner – which is being held today, in Salisbury, UK.
As we were already staying in London, we allowed ourselves the luxury of a relaxing morning, before setting out on the short trip to Wiltshire. After lunch, we walked over the river to Waterloo station and caught the 15:20 Yeovil train, which dropped us off in Salisbury 80 minutes later.
We’re staying at the White Hart hotel, which is quarter of an hour’s walk from the station.
