(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val and I had an important meeting in Dublin this morning.   It had been scheduled for some time and we didn’t want to be late.   So after our statutory cup of tea in bed first thing, we got ourselves organised, then caught the 9:41 diesel into Connolly and a convenient Luas over to Jervis.

Oh I should add a quick word about shingles.   I’m pleased (and relieved) to report that the worst of the symptoms have gone now, though I still have a few spots and some sensitivity all down my left arm.   But as long as the awful deep pain doesn’t come back (touch wood!) I will be happy.

Our meeting wasn’t until 11 and we were a few minutes early – just long enough to get some tea in Marks & Spencer and some toothpaste in Boots.   Once our meeting was eventually finished, we were definitely in need of refreshment so we headed over to the south side of Dublin with Grafton Street in mind.   On the way, we called in at “Sketch” in the Powerscourt Centre to have a look round – it’s a nice little shop and they always have interesting things to buy – before eventually ending up in Bewley’s café in Grafton Street.

By this time I definitely thought that I was in need of something more substantial, so had lunch whereas Val was more restrained and just enjoyed a coffee and a pastry.   the remainder of the afternoon was spent cruising the aisles of Dubray Books and Brown Thomas department store, before making our way over to Pearse station via Nassau Street.

A convenient Drogheda diesel came through after only a few moments’ wait, and we were soon back in the flat.   Now it’s time to start rehearsing my Spanish, and for Val to get her Pilates gear ready, in anticipation of our classes down at Portmarnock tonight.

Another busy but extremely rewarding day.

The shingles update – most of the spots have gone now, though some remain and only seem to be clearing slowly On Grattan Bridge, heading south
Bewley’s in Grafton Street.   Not quite sure why it’s branded as “Oriental” because it doesn’t really feel as if it hails from the East when you get inside Maybe the palm trees is what gives it the Oriental feel
Anyway the sandwiches are nice (though reassuringly expensive) Dubray Books, also in Grafton Street.   It’s got a reasonable (though not huge) selection of books and quite a nice small café on the top floor where you can ready before you buy
Looking north up Grafton Street – looking its best on a beautiful day
