Ireland day 1153. Sunday 24 November 2024- AGM and Walk

Ireland day 1153. Sunday 24 November 2024- AGM and Walk
Today’s summary Had lunch with Val in the flat then went into Dublin for the AGM of the Dublin Walking Club at Wynn’s Hotel.    Val was at work when I got back so I did a short walk round Malahide and then joined a video call with a friend back in the UK in the evening.   Val returned as usual about 10pm and we rounded off the evening with light TV on Netflix
Today’s weather Dry and bright with some sun.   Strong to gale force south westerly wind.  Appx 10c

Commentary

By their very nature, annual general meetings come around every year – and today it was the turn of the Dublin Walking Club.   The fourth I’ve been to since arriving in Ireland, actually.   The meeting wasn’t until 2:30pm, which gave plenty of time to have a relaxed morning, and then a hot lunch before Val and I went our separate ways for the afternoon.  Actually, we had some half-price cottage pies which were approaching their sell-by date, and which I’d picked up at Tesco yesterday.   They were extremely tasty and, with some frozen peas and broccoli, gave the appearance at least of being fairly nutritious.

After lunch, I headed off to the station to catch a DART into town to attend the meeting which was held, this year, at Wynn’s hotel in Abbey Street.   The meeting went quite well though, as ever with these clubs, there was quite a lot of discussion about relatively minor issues, but rather less on the bigger problems of an ageing and declining membership.

Once the meeting was over, a friend and I caught the H2 (which departs from just over the road from the hotel) and chatted all the way back to Portmarnock (for him) and Malahide (for me).   The time passed quickly and I was back in the flat well before 5pm – by which time Val had long since departed to Wonderlights.   After a quick cup of tea, I decided to go on a short walk round the Malahide suburbs, calling in at the shops to get some milk on the way back.

Later, I joined a video call with a friend in the South of England and spent an enjoyable 90 minutes putting the world to rights and discussing holiday destinations.   By the time I’d finished, it was getting quite late, so I put the central heating on and hungrily finished off my Meal Deal chicken pesto salad and apple slices.   So that’s where we are now.   Val will be home shortly, so I’m going to fire up Netflix and sort out some light viewing to round off the evening.   Another good, and sociable, day.

Just round the corner from Wynns is the Abbey Theatre.   We really enjoy evenings out there but haven’t been for a while.   Need to correct that omission in the short term! The view from the H2 approaching Malahide on the way back after the meeting

This took me rather by surprise.   Val retrieved it from my chin last night – the remains of a surgical suture accidentally left in the wound after the operation a few weeks ago to remove a lesion.   Note to self – try to avoid having nurses with cataracts to remove your stitches
