Commentary

It was Val’s turn, unfortunately, to fall into the clutches of the medical profession today.

She awoke with a toothache which got steadily worse during the course of the day, despite painkillers and well intentioned but probably off-beam husbandly interventions.   By lunchtime the discomfort hadn’t really eased, so she phoned the local dentist here to try and get an emergency appointment.   Luckily, she was able to get a slot at 4pm, so hopefully he may be able to identify and treat the cause of the problem.

Fortunately, Spanish and Pilates classes have finished for the Christmas break, so there was no need to trek out to Portmarnock today.   This gave us the evening delightfully free of commitments, so we eased back for the rest of the day, with Val concentrating on recovering from dental interventions while I did some domestic chores, the shopping, and pulled together our meals.

Hopefully we will back on track again in the next few days, but the important thing for now is to resist the temptation to overdo it!

PS in a late update, the offending tooth was badly decayed and has been removed.  Val unsurprisingly is feeling a bit battered so now it’s all hands to the mill (well my hands anyway) to secure a speedy recovery!

The Model Railway Museum surrounded by wintry trees.   The brightness of the new thatch has faded considerably over the three-plus years we have been here Later on, while Val was recovering in the flat, I went on a short walk round the Marina. A few Christmas lights added cheer to the darkness
I noticed this peculiar-looking craft (or crafts) moored in the harbour. It (or they) seem to have some sort of outrigger I must remember to come down in the daylight to get a better look and see if I can work out what it (or they) is
