Commentary

We’re all going on a Christmas Holiday (to paraphrase)!

We spent the morning cramming an improbably gigantic amount of stuff into the Trusty Yaris then waddled off at about noon down the M4 to County Mayo where we are staying in a rented cottage with our family for the next week.

The journey was straightforward though the car was clearly working hard to transport our heavy load.   But we made it before 4pm and our elder son, James, and his wife Katie were already here, having flown over from the UK via Knock.   I think their end-to-end journey (including hire car at this end) was probably quicker than our!

Val brought a load of Christmas decorations so the cottage has been suitably be-decked and looks very festive.   We’re having some (more!) of my frozen casserole for dinner, then going to pop off to the nearby Staunton’s pub to round off the evening with a quick Guinness.   It’s beautiful here, with stunning views of Croagh Patrick dominating the scene.

Blogs for the rest of the week will be a bit shorter than usual
