Ireland day 1115. Thursday 17 October 2024- Keeping Busy

Ireland day 1115. Thursday 17 October 2024- Keeping Busy
Today’s summary Spent the day mostly in the flat doing yet more washing and drying, hoovering, cooking and Spanish homework.   Managed to fit in a short walk between chores.   In the evening I picked up Val from the airport and for dinner we had the roast lamb that I cooked during the day
Today’s weather Overnight downpours again but once the rain cleared, it turned into a bright, sunny and dry day.   Light south westerly wind.   Appx 15c

Commentary

I had my work cut out for me today.   Val’s flight was due in from London at 5pm, and before that I quite a lot of preparation to do.   First off was all the rest of the washing – there seems to be loads of it – and more challengingly get it all dry so it could be put away before Val came back.   Because we can’t dry stuff on the balcony (silly in my view) that meant having the central heating on all morning – and as a consequence I almost melted.   Anyway it’s all done and dusted now.

Then came the hoovering – muddy boots and sandy beaches aren’t conducive to cleanliness and even after a few days the place can start to look grubby.   So a quick whizz around with the hoover was called for, once the washing was under control.

By this stage I realised I ought to think about what we would have for dinner tonight.   I decided a pop-pop meal simply wouldn’t do, so I went into town to get a half leg of lab (sorry, vegetarians) which could go in the oven to roast while I got on with all my other jobs.   I found some potatoes, carrots and cauliflower in the fridge so I prepared them ready to stick on the cooker later, closer to dining time.

I managed to fit in a light lunch at about this point then after this ever so brief pause, the next task beckoned – Spanish homework.   We have been given quite a big batch this week, so even once I’d settled down to it without distractions, it still took me a good two hours to complete.   Nevertheless, I found time to get out for a quick walk down to the marina, once I’d finished everything.   It had turned into a lovely afternoon, and I didn’t want to waste it by being stuck inside all day.

Phew.   Now I’m finished and according to Flight Radar, Val’s flight is due to land in 20 minutes.   So I better sign off, get the vegetables cooking, fire up the Trusty Yaris and head off to the airport, lest I be late!

Kerrigan’s – in my view the best butcher in Malahide You will never believe how long it took me to prepare this lot!
Under the cedar tree by the entrance to the Casino.   I wonder if the Cedar Cup Fungus (Geopora sumneriana) will put in an appearance this year? Marina looking tranquil today
The greenway cycle path bridge alongside the Broadmeadow viaduct is looking resplendent and new.   The council are apparently working on the access routes at either side now.   It should all be opened in 2025 or 2026
