Ireland day 1346. Thursday 05 June 2025- Showery
Today’s summary A quieter day than yesterday. In the morning, Val and I went on a quick walk round the Demesne. Had roast beef (from yesterday) and rice salad (from Saturday) for lunch. Took Val to the airport early afternoon for a short trip to London. On return to the flat I walked over Paddy’s Hill to Portmarnock and then back along the coast. In the evening, video call with Val and watched some travel YouTubes
Today’s weather Blustery with heavy showers but some sunny intervals. Strong north westerly wind. Appx 14c

Morning and Afternoon round Malahide
Commentary

There’s not a lot to say about today, actually, so I’m not going to spend long not saying it.

Anyway, it was generally a much quieter day than yesterday. In the morning, I made porridge and coffee for breakfast, today adding some muesli to the porridge to try and reduce its normal tendency to leave you feeling very full and then suddenly very empty a couple of hours later. The test did seem to work, after a fashion.

After breakfast, Val and I went out for a quick walk round the Demesne, successfully dodging the showers. It’s so beautifully green and fresh out there at the moment. On our return, for lunch we finished off the rice salad that Val made last Saturday and to which we added some leftover beef we’d brought home from our meal at Hawksmoor yesterday.

Soon afterwards, it was time to take the Trusty Yaris along the well worn path to the airport. I dropped Val off well in time for her 4:20pm flight to London. She’s spending a couple of days there seeing friends and is back on Saturday.

Once she was safely despatched and I’d returned to Malahide, I went out again and made the best of a brief dry interval to walk up over Paddy’s Hill, down to Portmarnock, and back along the coast. One of my favourite local walks.

In the evening I had a simple dinner of crackers, cream cheese, yogurt and a slice of Val’s home made chocolate cake from yesterday. Finally, I had a WhasApp call with Val and rounded off the day with a couple of travel videos on YouTube. I feel I can watch with impunity while Val is away. There’s no danger of me boring her to death!

Out and about this morning Healthy lunch (-ish!)
The big semi-derelict plot on Seamount Road has been sold.   I am interested to see what happens to the site.   I’m assuming the old house currently there will be knocked down to make room for more densely packed new homes, but we shall see.   There’s such a shortage of housing in Ireland at the moment, I’m pretty sure that whatever is built will sell quickly – and at a handsome price Lambay viewpoint from Paddy’s Hill playing fields
Nice to see the pyramidal orchids popping up on the verges of Limetree Avenue again.   I hope the grasscutters aren’t too enthusiastic the next time they pass this way
