The final stage in our journey back to Ireland today.

After a good night’s sleep and a decent breakfast at the Premier Inn in Rhuddlan, we headed back onto the A55 then over the bridge to Anglesey.   As we had time to spare, we dropped in to the handy National Trust property at Plas Newydd.   As ever, there was of course just time for refreshment in the excellent café and a quick walk round the grounds.  Impressive views back over the Menai Straits to the Snowdonian mountains, mostly covered in snow and looking extremely wintry.

Then a quick 20 minute drive to Holyhead for the ferry, where we are now waiting to depart in the harbour.   Hoping for a smooth crossing – and the forecast does look pretty good despite persistent rain.   The hip’s held up well to the journey and now we’re both looking forward to getting stuck back in to Irish life.

In the café at National Trust Plas Newydd.   There s something fascinating about their wood-chip burning stove – it’s a bit of a masterpiece of industrial engineering though sadly it wasn’t lit today as apparently it overheated last night and needs to cool down In the grounds at Plas Newyddd
