Ireland day 0531. Monday 13 March 2023- UKHip13
Today’s summary Went to the physio who gave me some exercises to strengthen my new hip and she also re-dressed my wound.   Then Val went into London and I met a friend for coffee then had a look round a new leisure centre.   Trying hard not to overdo it
Today’s weather Mostly dry with a few light spots of rain in the afternoon.   A few glimpses of sun in an otherwise overcast sky.   Strong to gale force south westerly wind.   Appx 11C

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

The day started with a major excitement – a visit to the physiotherapist in a nearby town about 25km away.   She was excellent, and assessed my progress as well as changing the dressing on my wound.   She seemed pleased with progress and gave me some more exercises to do once we get back to Ireland.   The over-riding message seemed to be not to push it too hard, and definitely no gym visits for at least another 2 weeks.

Then in the afternoon, I walked with Val up to the town before she went on to the station to catch a train back into London to deal with some family business and to visit an elderly friend who is in hospital.   We parted company and I went on down to the new leisure centre, recently opened, to have a quick look round.

Later in the afternoon, a friend came round for coffee and we had a good chat about his forthcoming long distance charity hike.   Now it’s time to relax a bit and perhaps catch up on some TV.   I am taking this “don’t overdo it” stricture very seriously.

If you are squeamish, look away now.   This is the scar as revealed when the physio removed the dressing this morning – it’s about 20cm long.   She was pretty pleased with the way it was healing, and has applied another dressing which has to stay on another week.   Luckily, it’s waterproof so I can have a shower (but not bath or swim) Up at the shops.   The Home of the Almond Croissant is right in the middle
Inside the new sports and leisure centre.   Pretty impressive
Today’s healthy lunch – courtesy of Val.   I compensated for it by having another massive Almond Croissant when my friend came round for coffee this afternoon.
