Ireland day 0512. Wednesday 22 February 2023- Recovering
Today’s summary My back is steadily getting better but Val is suffering a bit still unfortunately.   I made some bread in the morning then went on a short walk in the afternoon.   Val used the time to rest her back and keep the recovery going
Today’s weather Mostly dry and bright with clear blue sky and lots of sunshine.   Just a short light shower in the afternoon.   Light northerly wind.   Appx 6C.

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Well – we are both making progress on the back recovery front – copious quantities of tea and paracetamol helping us along the way.   Mine seems to be almost better – I think with luck I’ll be able to go to the gym again tomorrow.   Val is still suffering rather more and spent most of the day in bed.   Hoping to get up later perhaps to watch a Netflix film.

I spent the morning making some more bread – I feel like I’m getting the hang of it now and might even have a go making a loaf from basic ingredients – i.e. not from a packet.   Maybe need to get a bit more confidence with kneading first.

Then after a light lunch, I walked out to the Estuary road then through the estates to Yellow Walls Road and back along the coast path.   I paused briefly to pick up a cup of (excellent) Barry’s tea from the Centra store on the way and then found a suitable seat to enjoy it while admiring the exceptionally high tide in the Broadmeadow lagoon.   A lovely walk, with plenty of bright daylight in the longer evenings we’re benefitting from now.   Time to make dinner!

First thing today I decided to make a loaf of bread.   It turned out very well I think – despite being out of a Tesco €1 packet A lovely afternoon in the demesne.   Good to have a couple of hours extra daylight in the evenings to enjoy it now.
There’s a handy convenience store at the junction of Yellow Walls Road and the Coast Road… …where they do a very nice cup if Barry’s tea to take away
Exceptionally high tide in the lagoon today – it was 2 hours after a high tide on a Spring tide in the outer estuary – which fits well with my theory For anyone reading this on the other side of the Irish Sea – the fruit and veg shortages are not just a UK thing, apparently
Massive group of Grey Bellied Brent Geese grazing on someone’s front lawn.   They will be heading back to the Arctic shortly, I suspect
