A bit of a different day today.   I’m in the UK for a few days to get my hip  resurfaced.   Its similar to a hip resurfacing operation but a bit more complicated.   It’s said to be better for people who like being active, as there’s less risk of a dislocation than there is with a standard replacement.   I had my right hip done six years ago but since then my left has got steadily more painful, especially over the last couple of years.  This operation isn’t available on the public health systems either in the UK or Ireland, so I’m having to pay (unfortunately its quite expensive).  But that did give me the freedom to chose where I had it done so I decided to come back to the UK and have the operation at the same hospital with the same surgeon as last time.   He did a good job then, so it’s a tried and trusted procedure!

I actually had the operation earlier this morning, so now I’m starting the long journey back to full strength.   I’m glad to have had it done, as my hip was getting quite painful and was limiting my enjoyment of hill walks.   So it’s onwards and upwards from now on, hopefully.

All being well we (well Val, to be honest – and she has been an absolute star looking after me) will be driving back to Ireland in a couple of weeks.  In the meantime, lots of time planning of the next adventures.   Watch this space for further developments!
