“An Cailín Ciúin” means “The Quiet Girl” in Irish and in case you were wondering, it’s a film.

Val has three days off work so we went to watch it at the Irish Film Institute (one of our favourite haunts) this afternoon.   To complete the experience, we even had lunch there beforehand – and for once it was actually good value.

The film was excellent.   If you get the chance to watch it, I’d highly recommend it, though take plenty of Kleenex as it’s full of pathos.   I don’t normally go for sentiment but I can hardly express how much I liked this film.   So all in all it was an excellent afternoon out, enhanced by meeting one of Val’s colleagues from work on the train on the way in to Dublin, and then some friends we knew from the walking club in the Film Institute afterwards.

We finished off the afternoon with a nice wander round the Grafton Street shops – where we even bought ourselves a plant.   Now it’s poached eggs on home-made toast for dinner – a perfect end to the day.
