Ireland day 0468. Monday 09 January 2023- Suit and Doolin
Commentary
(Summary blog only. Last full blog was Day 0368).
A remarkable and successful day today. First things first. At noon I had an appointment at a bespoke tailoring company in Dublin, with a view to getting a suit made for a big wedding in July. I was quite nervous at the prospect but fortunately Val has three days off work so she joined me to ease the pressure a bit. Anyway it went well and I have commissioned a handmade suit, and chosen a nice fabric. It will be ready in about 12 weeks time.
Once this hair raising experience was out of the way, we hot-footed it back to Malahide and pretty much straight away jumped in the car to drive 3½ hours west to County Clare. Through a friend in the Walking Club, we have been able to rent a lovely little cottage in Doolin, right on the west coast, where the Burren meets the Atlantic. We are making the best of Val’s three days off work and staying here tonight and tomorrow night, returning to Malahide on Wednesday evening.
We settled in quickly, then headed down the road to the pub. Unfortunately, although it was open it wasn’t serving food because there was a 50th birthday party on – and it’s closed for the rest of the week, until the weekend. Anyway, we walked a little way further down the road and found the Doolin hotel, where we had an excellent seafood dinner and some nice beers. Now its time to light the fire, relax, and start planning tomorrow’s adventures.
