Ireland day 0465. Friday 06 January 2023- Marmalade2
Today’s summary Val was at work and I made another batch of marmalade during the day.   In the evening Val went out for a late-Christmas celebration with her Wonderlights colleagues and I went into Dublin for a “Trad” night at the Cobblestone pub with some Walking Club friends.
Today’s weather Occasional showers but mostly overcast and dry.   Moderate southerly wind.   Appx 9C

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val was working at the Casino so I spent the morning practicing some Spanish (classes start in a couple of weeks I think) then started out on batch 2 of the marmalade.   Changed the preparation technique a bit and the end result seemed to be a lot clearer – and a better set – than last time.

Cough slowly getting better – and it almost certainly isn’t Covid, as I I’ve done three negative lateral flow tests.

Finished off the afternoon with some shopping then in the evening went into Dublin for a “trad” night at the Cobblestone pub in Smithfield.  Val went out with friends from Wonderlights to Gibneys in Malahide so a sociable evening all round.

I used a double layer of tea towel for the pith and seeds – the aim was to see if it stopped so much cloudiness getting into the fruit and it did seem to work Close up of the finished product – a bit of peel separation – probably because the marmalade was still too hot – even after I let it cool for 20 minutes – when I poured it into the jars
Trad session at Cobblestones pub tonight, in Smithfield. Very enjoyable and excellent Guinness too
These new electric bikes have just appeared down by the Green in Malahide – I must give them a try one day.
