Ireland day 0463. Wednesday 04 January 2023- Seville Success
Today’s summary While Val was at work at the castle, I went into Dublin and managed to get some Seville oranges at Evergreen Fruit & Veg in Wexford St.   Also got some multi-bladed shredding scissors at Stock Design in St Stephen’s shopping centre.   Next few days will be marmalade-making!
Today’s weather Mild again, but dry.   Some sun but mostly overcast.   Strong westerly wind.   Appx 11C

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Today Val was working up at the castle – helping to pack up after Wonderlights finished last night.   While she was out, I took the Dart into Dublin to follow up on the lead I got about Seville oranges (for marmalade making) from a member of the walking club a couple of days ago.   And – as promised – the wonderful “Evergreen” greengrocer in Wexford street indeed had a box – and you could buy any quantity that you wanted.   The only other place that I have found in Ireland that sells them is a wholesaler with a minimum order of 13kg.

So I bought 5kg and filled my rucksack with delicious orange fruit (and five lemons, which you need to help make the marmalade set).   It was a wonderful find but despite being open for the last 30 years, the lady who served me said they were in danger of closing because of a lack of footfall.   So a quick shout out to Evergreen fruit & veg, 34 Wexford St, Portobello, Dublin 2, D02 XR99.   Pay it a visit before it’s too late.

Back from the commercial break, I headed down to St Stephens shopping centre to buy some multi-bladed scissors for shredding the orange peel (recommended by Evergreens) from Stock Design.   The shop sells a whole multitude of interesting looking gadgets and it’s definitely somewhere I’d like to have spent longer.

So now the oranges are looking at me from the fridge, while I gather the strength to start processing them.   A busy few days ahead

A full box of Sevilles!   At last, after a year-long quest to find them.    Excellent fruit & veg shop.   Pay it a visit.   Especially if you want Seville oranges.
A novelty, recommended by the fruit shop.   Supposedly useful for shredding the peel, but I’m not certain whether they will be strong enough or not.   Only one way to find out.. Inside the Stock Design shop.   Lots of interesting culinary stuff to look at – but strangely no pans.   At least none that I could see.   But they do sell multi-bladed shredding scissors
