Val was on a “double shift” again, so I attended an all-day conference at Croke Park GAA stadium, on geoscience research in Ireland, organised by the Irish Centre for Research in Applied Geoscience (iCRAG).

Very interesting if occasionally a bit dispiriting to be reminded how drastically human beings have already degraded the environment and affected global climate.   But a lot of good research going on and it felt good to be back at a real “in person” conference again after an absence of many years.

I also had an interesting chat with John Fitzgerald, a leading energy economist in Ireland (I subsequently discovered that his father was Garret Fitzgerald, a former Taoiseach, and his brother founded Sherry Fitzgerald, Ireland’s main estate agency.   An impressive family).

So here’s the December rose, to add to my annual collection Croke Park this morning from Jones’ Street
Inside the main conference hall.   I estimated at least 200 attendees Carefully manicuring the pitch – complete with immaculate stripes and artificial light to make the grass grow
Croke Park in the moonlight as I was leaving this evening.   A spectacular sight
