Ireland day 1045. Thursday 08 August 2024- Pottering
Today’s summary Another fairly quiet day in Malahide.   Started off with a video call to a friend in the UK while Val went on a run.   After lunch did some paperwork then Val and I went on a walk round the demesne.  Another video call to more friends in the evening slotted in between the Olympics and an episode of “The Wire”
Today’s weather Overcast, mild and humid with occasional drizzly showers.   Moderate south westerly wind.   Appx 20c

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

I like days like today when you are greeted with a waft of warm air when you walk OUT of the supermarket – days when the ambient temperature outside is actually higher than inside the air-conditioned shop.   They are rare in the British Isles and especially so here in Ireland, but they are to be savoured when they do happen.

Having said that, I perhaps didn’t make quite as much of the weather as I should – though Val did somewhat better.   I spent the first part of the day on a video call with a friend in the UK while Val went on a run up by the cricket pitch.   After a lunch of freshly baked bread (Val’s special Irish recipe onion and sage bread) and charcuterie, I set about tackling the admin stuff that I’d put off from yesterday while Val went to the library.

Eventually, once she was back, I could stand being indoors no longer so we both headed out and completed a quick circuit of the demesne.   It was a bit drizzly to start with, but it soon dried up and it was actually quite pleasant.   We spent a bit of time somewhat half-heartedly trying out the equipment big new outdoor exercise centre (see featured image at the top) then beat a retreat back to the flat.

I briefly headed out again to get some baked beans for dinner (we really know how to live) then after a short Olympic session we had another video call with more friends on the other side of the Irish Sea.   Finally, we rounded off the day with an episode of “The Wire” which perhaps isn’t the best way to finish off the day as it always leave you with troubled thoughts.   But we are midway through the series now and can’t stop!
