Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val was still away in London so I took the opportunity to spend the morning catching up on podcasts and doing the laundry.   Eventually the housework was done, so I went off to the gym for a couple of hours.  I’m really enjoying the extended workout and swimming routine and it all seems to be going very well so far (famous last words).

Once that was done, I came back to the flat, had lunch, and then started preparing some ictured below) which Val had brought back from London, and which I took along to our end-of-term Spanish Class party (it went down v well!).   In between it all, I managed to fit in a quick canter round Hanlon’s Lane and the Marina.   Lots of flowers everywhere – Ireland really does look lovely at the moment.   The Solomon’s Seal flowers (see banner image at the top) in the Casino gardens were particularly remarkable.   They are an unusual and quite rare inflorescence.

Now just back from Spanish, so time for a cup of tea then bed.   Back manaña!

Today’s photos (click to enlarge)

Down by the seashore in Malahide this afternoon.   The shipwreck is still there, in the distance Cheerful violas in the windowboxes over the station.   They are very well maintained, all year
Solanum crispum “Glasnevin” – aka Chilean Potato Vine, growing in a garden in Hanlon’s Lane.   Judging by the cultivar name, I’d guess this variety arose in Ireland’s very own botanic gardens No shortage of May roses for my annual collection!   Also in Hanlon’s Lane
The white dot in the centre is possibly significant.   Some sort of workers’ tent has appeared just by the outfall of the Broadmeadow Lagoon, alongside the railway embankment.   Perhaps some of the preliminary surveying has started for the long-awaited cycleway across the lagoon?   Let’s hope so It was the last of our Spanish classes tonight, until next September.  So we had an informal party and I took along some Jamon de Iberico, courtesy of Finer Things Deli in London.   in went down a storm, so many thanks Tom!
I think this boat in Malahide marina takes visitors over to Lambay Island
