Ireland day 0574. Tuesday 25 April 2023- Pork Cheeks
Today’s summary Val at work.   I walked down to the butchers at Clare Hall to collect some pork cheeks that Val had ordered.   Caught the bus back and did a bit more on my ice ages paper
Today’s weather Bright and dry with long intervals of brilliant sunshine most of the day.  Light north westerly wind.   Still feeling cold for the time of year at appx 9C

Commentary

(Summary blog only.   Last full blog was Day 0368).

Val was at work and I had a relatively quiet day in her absence.

I started off with a quick video call to a friend in the UK and then did a bit of Spanish revision.   Once that was out of the way, I had to go to the Clare Hall shopping centre – mostly to visit the butchers who had specially got in some pork cheeks (Val ordered them last week).   They are quite hard to come by and make excellent casseroles.   As the weather was dry, I decided to walk – and thoroughly enjoyed it.   I didn’t use sticks and I couldn’t help reflecting on how much less painful it was today than the last time I’d done it, pre-operation.

Anyway I got to Clare Hall easily, collected the meat, then did a bit of shopping in the adjacent Tesco.  There was a bit of a wait for the bus back to Malahide, but it eventually came and I was back by 2pm.   Once I’d had my late lunch, I spent the rest of the afternoon writing a bit more of my paper on the Ice Ages for the Geol. Soc.   I’m finding it hard going at the moment and the prose isn’t flowing.   But I’ll keep at it and will eventually have it finished.

There’s no Spanish class tonight so once I’ve finished this blog, I’m going to do a bit of googling and see if there’s an essential box set online that we need to stream in order to keep up with the zeitgeist.

I’m a bit worried that my favourite redwood tree in the castle demesne may be suffering from a Phytophthera infection – which always seems to be fatal.   I really hope it isn’t St Doulough’s church.   As usual, it was looking beautifully pastoral
Self-seeded rapeseed growing at the roadside.   It looks brilliantly attractive for about two weeks a year.   The rest of the time it’s just messy and smelly Excited at the prospect of going shopping
It’s not just the UK that is suffering at the moment
