Commentary

We woke up this morning to the sound of wind and rain lashing around outside.   It was the first time in the week that this has happened – we have been so lucky with the weather for our trip to Dingle.  Especially as the forecast for next week looks pretty grim.   It’s worked perfectly for us and given us a very favourable impression indeed of this part of Ireland – especially as the cottage has been perfect, too.

Our checkout time was 11am so as soon as we’d had breakfast, we packed up all our gear and stuffed it into the cars, jenga-fashion.   Our landlady arrived at 11 on the dot, to check everything was in order and to read the meters – we paid €95 in total for oil and electricity (on top of €10 for wood for the fire) so it wasn’t cheap.   But on the other hand the cottage itself was exceptionally good value, and we did keep it nice and warm!

Val elected to drive back, so we headed for Malahide through the wind and rain, pausing at the Obama Plaza service station for lunch.   Eventually we were in the flat by about 5pm so we treated ourselves to a cup of tea and a glass of something stronger as soon as we got in and before we even thought about tackling the unpacking.

Our friends are staying with us in Malahide for another couple of nights, so we got ourselves Beshoff’s fish and chips for dinner before rounding off the evenings with reflections on a top-rate week away, and even a few minutes of Netflix too.   So now let’s just see what tomorrow brings!

Ready to go.   It’s been a really good cottage.   Val did very well to find it and book it
