Ireland day 1473. Friday 10 October 2025- Guests Arrive
Commentary
It’s been a quiet-but-busy day today.
Our main aim was to prepare for a trip we’re going on tomorrow and the for next few days. So clothing to cover all climatic eventualities was gathered and shoehorned into rucksacks and cases, along with all the things that you think you might need for a week self catering on the west coast of Ireland. It’s quite a lot of stuff, actually, and there’s still more we will need to get tomorrow.
Once that was mostly sorted, Val cut my hair (we are getting maximum value from our new electric clippers – each cut saves €20 so they are pretty much paid for now) and then we had a very light lunch, mostly comprising coffee and biscuits. After that, the next job was to get the car filled up with petrol and generally ready to go tomorrow. So we drove over to Applegreen to refuel, and I topped up the screenwash.
From the garage we drove on to Dunnes to get everything we will need to cater for our visitors tonight. They are staying with us before we set off tomorrow and we want to put on a decent show of hospitality. We got most of the things we needed though it did take a long time to drive back to Malahide, as the road was choc-a-bloc with Friday commuters and parents picking up childfren from school
Eventually back at the flat, Val started making dinner – it’s sausages in cider, which are always delicious – and I did some tidying up. Then our guests arrived from the ferry at about 6pm and we spent the rest of the evening chatting and enjoying dinner.
A very productive day!
