Ireland day 1455. Monday 22 September 2025- More Guests

Today’s summary	Had breakfast in the flat with our friends, who have been staying for the last few days. Then I took them to the airport for their flight home while Val tidied and cleaned the flat. By the time I got back, our next guests were just arriving at the station. Val collected them then we all had coffee and lunch together. Then after our brief meeting we took them, also, back to the airport for their flight. The rest of the afternoon was spent cleaning and washing, and on a short walk. Ate up the curry for dinner, did some packing, and watched some TV

Commentary

What a busy few days it’s been! We’ve had friends staying for the last four nights but this morning was their last with us. So we all had breakfast together then after they’d packed up and we had said our goodbyes, I drove them to the airport for their flight back to Scotland.

Meanwhile, Val started tackling the washing, tidying and cleaning ready for the arrival of our next guests – albeit they were only paying us a flying visit. So, in true in-and-out fashion, Val dashed off to the station to meet them off their train from Dun Laoghaire just as I got back from the airport.

Eventually we were all in the flat together so we enjoyed coffee, lunch and a good chat for an hour or two with our newest guests. There was lots to catch up on, as we hadn’t seen them for several years, and we very much enjoyed their company.

Eventually, they too had to leave so once again we jumped in the Yaris and drove round to the airport for their flight. The second airport trip today! Finally, Val and I were back in the flat and had the place to ourselves. It felt a bit empty but also quite nice not having to be on best behaviour anymore!

The rest of the day was spent doing more washing and tidying, and I went on a quick leg-stretch round the Demesne while Val did some knitting. For dinner, we ate some of the curry left over from Thursday and froze the rest. And in the evening we did our own packing. We’re going away for a few days, starting tomorrow, so needed to get into travel mode and think about what to take. We’re travelling hand-baggage only, as usual, so our choice of clothes and so-on requires a bit of careful thought.

Finally, all our jobs were done and cases were packed, so we wound down with an hour or two of TV before heading to bed.

This exotic-looking specimen which seems to have taken up residence at the entrance to our block of flats is, according to Google, a Common Plume Moth, Emmelina monodactyla. It was about 2cm across
