Ireland day 1449. Tuesday 16 September 2025- Back To Earth
Today’s summary Had a lazy morning with breakfast in the Westbury hotel before checking out at noon. Took a train back to Malahide from Pearse then went on a loop walk over the hill and down to the coast to help the re-set back to normality. Beans on toast and a bit of TV in the evening.
Today’s weather A bit calmer than the last couple of days. Dry and bright with occasional sun. Light westerly wind. Appx 16c

Commentary

We rounded off our luxury break in Dublin today with a leisurely morning making the most of the facilities at the Westbury hotel. Very nice – though it does lack the pool which really set the Merrion apart. But a very nice breakfast (kippers and porridge) in the conservatory.

Eventually all good things have to come to an end though, so around noon we checked out of the hotel and started our journey back down to earth. Cases were hauled over to Pearse station and after a few moments’ wait we caught a diesel back to Malahide.

Once back in Malahide we had a cup of tea and enjoyed some delicious fruit (peach and nectarine) which we had brought back from our room in the Merrion. After a digestive pause in proceedings, we decided to go out and get a bit of fresh air outside.

We ended up doing our favourite “hill and coast” walk, pausing only briefly at Portmarnock to get an ice cream which we enjoyed on the beach.

Eventually we found ourselves back at the flat, where we are currently spending a quiet evening reflecting on an astonishing few days of luxury and completing our journey back into the real world.

Breakfast in the conservatory.   Very nice Meanwhile back in Malahide, final preparations are underway for the cricket which starts in a couple of days’ time
Lots of holly berries this year.   A sign of a coming cold winter?   Unlikely these days, but you never know On the beach.   A perfect spot for an ice cream.   And for once it wasn’t too windy!
A lone yachtsman seems to have become stranded on Malahide beach.   No idea if this was by accident or by design.   Hopefully the incoming tide will float him off. Looking up Malahide’s New Street from outside Tesco
No idea what’s going on up on the roof of our apartment block.   But not being in the top floor, and not being an owner, I don’t have to worry about it.   Hooray!
