Ireland day 1448. Monday 15 September 2025- Westbury
Commentary
Day two of our mini-break treat today started with a rather nice breakfast in the Merrion – I had wanted to go for a swim first, but just didn’t have the time. Anyway the porridge was done to perfection and the yogurts were delicious.
Afterwards, we packed our things, checked out and left our luggage with the concierge. We had a wander round some of the riverside sights of Dublin, enjoying the fact that it was all right on our front door rather than at the end of a struggle with the Dart. Then we had a meeting before returning to the Merrion hotel by which time it was early afternoon and we were ready for lunch.
By the time we’d enjoyed our avocado salad (Val) and beef sandwiches (me) we were ready to move to stage two of our tour of the posh hotels of Dublin. So we collected our bags and took advantage of a break in the stormy weather to stroll the ten minutes or so across town to the Westbury hotel where we’re staying tonight.
We are checked in now and ensconced in our room, surveying our surroundings. First impressions are good – the room is comfortable and well appointed though perhaps slightly misses some of the Georgian charm of the Merrion. Also, the staff don’t seem quite as customer focused. But it’s really comfortable here and we are loving it.
In a few minutes, we will be heading out to Chez Max for dinner. It’s one of our favourite French restaurants in Dublin and we are very much looking forward to it. A key element of any deluxe treat in Dublin!
