Commentary

We’ve had a pretty low key day again today.

We spent the morning mostly pottering about in the flat and in Malahide. I had some Spanish to get ready for this evening’s class, and we also wanted to pick up some bits and pieces from Malahide. First though I made some porridge and coffee for breakfast.

Once Spanish was dealt with and breakfast eaten, we wandered down to town to do the shopping. I thought it might be prudent to get some more Covid tests (although I am feeling more or less back to normal now) so Boots was my first port of call. Meanwhile, Val dropped into Kerrigans to get a couple of stir frys for lunch.

Purchases complete, we made our way back to the flat via the marina and Hanlons Lane. Although the day had started out with the promise of being decent, by the time we were out and about, a sea-mist was rolling in so it was quite cool and damp. A spectacularly repellent lions mane jellyfish sauntered about in the marina, daring any unsuspecting sea creatures lingering nearby to fall into its deadly embrace.

Back at the flat, Val made a delicious stir fry with the Kerrigans purchases. Then by the time I’d done the washing up, it was time to do a final check of my deberes, and head on down to the station for the next train into town.

Val accompanied me today, as she wanted to seek out a specialist greengrocer near St Stephen’s Green, where she has discovered they sell damsons. I hope she’s successful as I love the rich colour and flavour of damsons – especially in crumbles.

Once at Pearse, we went our separate ways – Val on her damson hunt and me in pursuit of Cervantes. I’m already looking forward to putting my feet up when I get back!

Lion’s Mane jellyfish hanging about in the marina.   It was about 30cm in diameter.   Personally, I think they are even more revolting than slugs.   Yuck! Altogether more appetising – Kerrigan’s lunch ingredients
