Ireland day 1403. Friday 01 August 2025- To Doolin DWC
Commentary
The next few days’ blogs will be shorter than normal as we are staying with friends for a few days in their cottage in Doolin, Co Clare, on the west coast of Ireland, and I don’t want to spend the whole time anti-socially hunched over my laptop, writing!
We had done most of our packing yesterday, so this morning we only had to get the food out of the fridge, get our clothes, bedding and other personal items together, and jump in the car. But it still took us until noon to get ready.
Anyway eventually we were ready and we trundled off. It was a fairly straightforward journey and it took us just over four hours, with a stop midway. We travelled the M1/M50/M4/M6/M18 route and it went smoothly apart from a brief hold up on the busy M50. We eventually pulled into Doolin at about 4:30.
After cups of tea in the back garden, and a catch up on all the news with our friends, we headed off to the nearby Gus O’Connor’s pub for the evening. We enjoyed a couple of pints (a Murphy’s – just for a change – and a Guinness, in my case) and a very nice beef casserole for dinner. We stayed until about 10pm, with the last half hour enjoying the lively musical ambience and the buzzing atmosphere.
Back in the cottage now, time to enjoy a night-cap perhaps, and to start planning the coming days’ adventures. Can’t wait to get started!
