Ireland day 1401. Wednesday 30 July 2025- Plugging Away
Today’s summary In the morning, I spent ninety minutes on a video call with a friend in London.   Then Val and I had an early lunch of home-made lentil curry and rice pudding (both delicious) then I finished off my deberes.   Left the flat at 4:30 pm to go off to my next Spanish class at Cervantes
Today’s weather Dry and overcast.   Westerly breeze.   Appx 20c

Commentary

I sometimes think it would be so easy not to do a lot of the things I do end up doing.   I could save time by not bothering to keep up with friends, for example, and I could certainly make life a lot simpler by not signing up for an intensive Spanish course in Dublin.   I have noticed that alternative of just opting out seems to have become more attractive as I have got older.    But etched in my memory is the adage – which seems to have a ring of possibility to it – that “you don’t stop doing things because you are getting older, rather you get older because you stop doing things”.

I am fairly keen that this doesn’t happen to me.   So, first thing, I launched into a long (ninety minute) video call with a friend in London – we hadn’t spoken in a while and there was a lot to catch up on.   It was nice to know we haven’t been forgotten over here.   By the time I had finished, I was getting hungry so it was fortunate that at that very moment Val had just finished getting lunch ready.   It was lentil curry followed by rice pudding – both home-made and both lovely.

Then I had to tackle the rest of the deberes from Monday’s Cervantes class.   I don’t like doing homework but the class is tonight and the fear of public embarrassment makes it worthwhile putting the effort in.   The course is only ten lessons long and as there are two per week, it will be finished by early September.   So the pain won’t last too long and hopefully there will be some gain at the end of it! Anyway it’s getting close to the time to go into town.   My train is just after 4:30 and I have to get my papers together first.   Tomorrow I will report back on whether humiliation was successfully avoided!

Essential cup of tea at Pearse station before embarking on three very intense hours of learning Phew! Time to start the journey back to Malahide.  Leaving Cervantes,  Lincoln Place
This is our required reading for our course this month.   It’s a lighthearted story about a Spanish detective called Lola Lago and Google Translate is being used extensively!
