Commentary
Well if yesterday the weather felt like April, today it felt like October. Quite a change in just 24 hours. I do hope this doesn’t mark the end of summer!
The weather really didn’t bother us today, though, as we were busy pretty much of the time.
Once we had got up, I made an early (for me) start and got down to the gym for 9:30. Like yesterday, I spent half an hour on the exercise bike and then the same in the pool. I wanted to fit in my 50 lengths (1050m) before Aquarobics started at 11 am and I just made it. Not helped by mucking up the combination lock on the new locker in the changing room, and having to be rescued by one of the pool attendants.
While I was out, Val had been busy baking so we had one of her delicious home-made chocolate chip cookies to round off our lunch perfectly.
Afterwards, I had a video call with one of my friends in Houston, then Val and I ventured out to the Demesne to look at the preparations for tonight’s concert by Mumford and Son. It’s the last in this years season of Malahide concerts and while it’s been good seeing the town so buzzy, it will be quite nice to get slightly quieter evenings back, too.
The crowds were pouring in as we walked past the castle (it’s a sell out tonight, apparently) though I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for the punters as it’s really not a brilliant day for an outdoor concert. Hopefully the weather will perk up a bit as evening falls.
Once we’d checked out the stage, we pressed on out to Centra at the end of the Yellow Walls Road. We paused for refreshments, of course, then made our way back to the flat via the coast and Hanlon’s Lane (to avoid getting caught up in the crowds emerging from the station).
Then, it was more tennis in evening (it’s such a comforting annual fixture), a glass of red wine, and for dinner a ready made lamb shepherds pie that we’d picked up half price at Centra. All very civilised. The only thing missing is the strawberries and cream!
