Ireland day 1356. Sunday 15 June 2025- Celebrations!
Commentary
A day with a difference today! A birthday for Val, and a Father’s Day for me. So we spent it in celebratory style – with a lovely lunch, calls with family, and a lot of relaxation.
After cards had been exchanged and presents opened, we made ourselves look presentable and jumped onto a train into Dublin. It was raining when we got there, so rather than walking across town to our lunch venue, we took a Luas part of the way.
We eventually arrived at Chez Max in Dane street – our favourite French restaurant in Dublin. (Having said that, we haven’t actually been to any others, so I can’t say for certain that it’s THE best, even though we like it). We were a bit early but they managed to fit us in without too much of a wait.
It was a delicious meal – French onion soup, boeuf bourgignon, tomato salad, coffee and few glasses of nice red wine. Absolutely excellent and just right for the day.
Eventually, having eaten and drunk as much as we could without turning into Mr and Mrs Creosote, we paid the bill and made our way back across Dublin to Connolly. A well timed diesel whisked us back to Malahide in next to no time (although my memory of the journey is slightly hazy as it is just possible that I might have fallen asleep).
After a couple of cups of tea and a call with family in Canada, we spent the rest of the evening relaxing, digesting but not eating and not drinking (!) and watching TV. Just the perfect way to round off a perfect day.
